Safety Statement Introduction & Legal Requirements
Directors, owners and employers must meet the requirements of The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the associated regulations. If you employ more than 3 members of staff you are required have a written health and safety policy statement with clearly defined roles and responsibilities.

It is a practical tool for reducing accidents and ill-health at work. The Safety Statement should be a ‘live’ document that all staff are aware of and which is implemented at all levels in the organisation, integrated into on-going activities and effectively communicated to everyone in the workplace.

Hazard identification and risk assessment is a key component of a health and safety statement. There is a legal requirement for employer to have completed a written risk assessment (S.H.W.W. Act 2005).
The employer must also ensure the person appointed to compile risk assessments is competent with respect to the risk assessment undertaken.
