Aviation Immediate Care (AIC) course has been revised and updated in order to ensure that it complies to Irish and International standards for attestation of cabin crew. It includes the most current Irish Heart Foundation, Pre-hospital Emergency Care Council and European Resus Council protocols in Automated External Defibrillator use, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and ensures that it includes the administering of Aspirin as a primary care drug for use with Heart Attack victims.

Training Aims
This course has been developed in order to:

• Ensure that those required to give immediate care in an aviation setting are able to competently perform the skills necessary in order to care for a passenger or fellow crew member prior to the arrival of an appropriate medical professional.
• Provide formal qualifications for those involved in providing immediate care which, is on a national register of first aid providers and recognised as such.
• Encourage maintenance and standardisation of immediate care protocols for those providing care in an aviation setting.

Training Duration
Learners attend a total of 4 days doing 3 units per day covering both the didactic and practical elements of each unit. The fourth day is a revision session of all 9 units and then assessments.
All course training material, manuals and equipment are provided for the course. The manual used, referenced and provided to each student on this course. The manual is called “First Aid, CPR and AED” Published by Jones and Bartlett, Compiled by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, conforming to Pre-hospital Emergency Care Council, Irish Heart Foundation and European Resus Council guidelines. It is the most up to date and most appropriate manual on the market for this course.

Training Approach
This course is run in a highly participative way. Participants get plenty of opportunities to practice and review the skills learned on the course. The course utilises PowerPoint presentations, Training DVDs, role play and practical training scenarios, to encourage the learner to become familiar with the subjects taught on the course and to get as near to practical hands on experience in dealing with emergencies and patients before they have to deal with them in reality.

Record System
Upon commencement of the course, a course commencement form is submitted to the Further Education Training Awards Council (FETAC) with all the learners’ relevant details to be put on the national register of first aid providers. Sign in sheets are compiled each day of the course and kept in company records as are assessment results.

Assessment and Certification System
This course is weighted at Level 2 on the Pre-hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) framework and Level 5 on the Further Education Training Awards Council (FETAC) framework. A FETAC Occupational First aid cert and an Aviation Immediate Care certificate is issued to each successful learner upon completion of this course. These Certificates are valid for two (2) years from course completion date. Revalidation takes one (1) day.
This course is approved by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA)/Emergency Services Training Institute and is awarded FETAC level 5 and PHECC level 1 certificates
